Joss Whedon is resurrecting the dead with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

In 2012, audiences everywhere were captivated by the cinematic event directed by Joss Whedon. Marvel’s “the Avengers” presented action, adventure, conflict and comedy, all of which were played out by an iconic cast. Hearts were unexpectedly broken when, in the last leg of the movie, Agent Phil Colson (played by Clark Gregg) was killed.

The casualty hit the fans hard, which begged for a way to bring Gregg’s character back into the picture. The Internet was filled with mourners, and many fans suspected that the character might find a way to return. President Obama himself tweeted that he would use his presidential power to resurrect Coulson for “Avengers 2” (set to premiere in 2015).

These fans were heard loud and clear. ABC announced the premiere of a new show: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gregg will be returning to his role as Phil Coulson, and several fresh faces will join him to fill out the S.H.I.E.L.D agency. Coulson, who first appeared in “Iron Man” in 2008, has become a much beloved character and fans rejoice to see him return.

Indiewire reveals Joss Whedon agreed to write the pilot for the series. He will be joined in the writing process by his brother, Jed Whedon, and Dollhouse writer, Maurissa Tancharoen. In the same article, the Whedon brothers and Tanchareon have also agreed to executive produce. Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb will also be executive producing the show.

In an interview with IGN, ABC president Paul Lee confirms that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will be set after the battle of New York seen in “the Avengers”. Marvel fans everywhere are curious as to the nature of Agent Coulson’s reappearance after his tragic death. It is no secret that Joss Whedon (who wrote for the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has a flare for bringing back dead characters.

The TV show will introduce Coulson’s fellow S.H.I.E.L.D agents: Agent Grant Ward, Agent Althea Rice, Agent Leo Fitz, Agent Jemma Simmons and newbie, Skye. The show will give viewers an insight into the secret agency and its adventures.

The pilot for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will premiere on ABC this Fall.
