Josh Whitehouse Has Been Cast in ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘The Long Night’ on HBO

Josh Whitehouse (Poldark, Valley Girl) has been cast in the Game of Thrones prequel, The Long Night. Although Whitehouse will not play the lead role, he is still an important character for the series. Whitehouse will join Naomi Watts who plays a socialite with a dark secret.

For a while, things were kept hush on the prequel. It was not until today that the co-executive producer of the tv series Game of Thrones and author, George R.R. Martin, wrote in his blog about the title for the prequel as well as casting. “Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film,” writes Martin.

Martin also writes, “There are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could. The readers among you might want to grab a copy of FIRE & BLOOD when it is released on November 20, though.” Five prequels have been in development, but not all have been confirmed for an on-screen debut. The Long Night is the first one that will air on HBO.

HBO Programming President Casey Bloys explains when some of those prequels will air: “They’re moving along,” he said. “We have some really talented writers working on them. The one thing I will tell you… any sort of pilot-to-series [order], there’s not going to be anything on our air for a least a year after Game of Thrones airs. We’re not using the final season to launch a new show or anything like that. There’s going to be a separation between the two.”

With the confirmation of a title and casting of two stars, the prequel will begin filming in early 2019. There is no premiere date as of yet.
