The team behind upcoming Hulu stop-motion animated superhero series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. have pulled back the curtain on some extremely special voice appearances from major celebrities, as reported by SyFy Wire. Towards the end of remotely conducted WonderCon fan Q&A with the main cast and series co-creator Jordan Blum (Community, American Dad!), surprise video message arrived from award-winning actor Jon Hamm (Mad Men, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), who asked who the voice of Iron Man would be in Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. Blum’s fellow executive producer and writer Patton Oswalt (Bojack Horseman, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) replied by announcing that Hamm himself would be voicing Tony Stark’s super-powered alter ego.
When queried by Hamm about the possibility of additional guest stars, Blum confirmed that Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost, The Pagemaster) would voice the evil wrestler Poundcakes, Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live, Barry) would be the voice of both The Hulk’s nemesis Leader and the villainous Angar the Screamer, and that Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Venture Bros.) provides the voice for former member of the Avengers known as Wonder Man, according to SyFy Wire. For the record, neither Hamm nor Fillion could be considered a stranger to worlds dictated by comic book logic. Hamm voices a character in the animated Amazon Prime Video comic book adaptation Invincible and provided narration for season two of the FX drama Legion, which takes place in Marvel’s X-Men universe, as reported by IGN. Fillion, for his part, has had his signature bravado and cool tapped for many superhero project in the past, including Henchmen, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and multiple DC Universe animated films where he voices Hal Jordan A.K.A. Green Lantern. Furthermore, both Hamm and Fillion have lent their voices to the stop-motion animated Adult Swim sketch show Robot Chicken produced by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The Burbank-based animation studio also oversees the animation for Marvel’s M.O.DO.K., via their official website.
Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is an animated sad-com set in the Marvel universe: “After years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth’s mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. (Oswalt) has run his evil organization A.I.M. [Advanced Idea Mechanics] into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.’s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, [he] is set to confront his greatest challenge yet,” via Deadline. M.O.DO.K.’s family is comprised of his level-headed but vulnerable wife Jodie (Aimee Garcia, Lucifer), his ambitious daughter Melissa (Melissa Fumero, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and his eccentric yet optimistic son Lou (Ben Schwartz, Sonic the Hedgehog).
Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. comes to Hulu on May 12.
