Jon Bernthal To Star As The Punisher In Season Two Of ‘Daredevil’

Daredevil has cast the role of The Punisher for its upcoming second season.

Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) will play the role of Frank Castle also known as The Punisher. The Punisher is a popular Marvel vigilante who wants to clean up Hell’s Kitchen in New York City through any means, even if they are violent and deadly, according to Marvel’s press release.

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb in the statement. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Netflix revealed the news in a tweet along with the logo for season two that can be seen below. The logo differs from season one with the addition of bullet holes through the text. It was accompanied by the following text: “Frank Castle is coming to Hell’s Kitchen. Those who stand in his way shall be punished.”

Daredevil stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, a blind vigilante who is also trying to clean up Hell’s Kitchen’s streets but is against killing. Cox and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple are both returning for season two.

The Netflix original series will release all of season two of the show in 2016. It is a part of five Netflix live-action series coming from the Marvel universe. The other four are: A.K.AJessica Jones, coming later this year, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders, a miniseries which will be the last to be released and will tie in characters from all four.

Daredevil is executive produced by Doug Petrie (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Marco Ramirez (DaVinci’s Demons), Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods), and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D). Season one of Daredevil is available to stream now on Netflix.
