John Mulaney (Saturday Night Live) is hitting the stage again and with a twist. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comic has announced a multi-night live comedy event, putting his own spin on the traditional comedy show. This live streamed event titled John Mulaney: Everybody’s in LA, will premiere on Netflix starting on May 3rd.
The six episode special will be a part of one of the biggest comedy events of the year, Netflix Is A Joke Fest. All six episodes will be performed and streamed live as a part of the festival, where, well, everybody is going to be at. At least the major names in comedy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the special will launch on May 3rd, followed by each episode premiering nightly at 7pm PT from May 6th to May 10th. As a part of the festival, Mulaney will also be performing on May 4th at the Hollywood Bowl.
Everybody’s in LA will feature Mulaney showing off his comedy chops as he incorporates the faces of comedy in the city’s scene into his exploration of LA. Netflix describes the special to be a “comically unconventional show,” and that it will “feature special guests and field pieces shot in Los Angeles.”. Serving as a way to show off not only the streaming service’s dominance in the distribution of stand-up comedy, but also as a highlight of Mulaney and his comedic abilities as he transitions into a form of comedy audiences have yet to see from him.
Netflix Is A Joke Fest is a massive comedy festival centered in LA. The festival will span 10 days as a devotion to the art of comedy. The event will also have approximately 300 shows performed and will reach over 35 venues all throughout the city of Los Angeles. The lineup is stacked with well-known comedians as well as up and coming ones. Comedians such as Chris Rock (Everybody Hates Chris), Ali Wong (Beef), Sarah Sivlerman (School of Rock, I Smile Back), Jerry Seinfeld (Seinfeld) and David Letterman (The Late Show With David Letterman), just to name a few. Netflix Is a Joke Fest will run May 1st through May 12th with Mulaney’s special taking the streaming service by storm starting May 3rd.
