Following its successful two seasons, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso is now working on the production of the third season. According to Deadline, South African actor Jodi Balfour will join the cast. Balfour is known for her role as Gladys Witham in the Canadian television drama series Bomb Girls and Jackie Kennedy on The Crown. Balfour is a recipient of the Canadian Screen Awards.
Balfour is the first to be confirmed as an additional cast member for the upcoming season. Reportedly, Balfour will play a new character, Jack. Jack is a venture capitalist. Her role is expected to be a recurring and charming one.
Another Apple TV+ series, space drama For All Mankind, also stars Balfour. She plays the main role of Ellen Waverly in that show. Balfour also played the female lead of BBC1 and Cinemax’s limited series Rellik and recurred on the third season of HBO’s True Detective. For films, she portrayed Heather Graham in The Rest of Us and a small role in Final Destination 5.
Ted Lasso features the story of Ted Lasso, an American college football coach, who gets hired to coach an English soccer team. The owner of the soccer team, Rebecca Welton, hired the inexperienced Lasso to revenge on her ex-husband. However, the charming and determined Lasso gradually wins over Welton and the skeptical English crowd.
Jason Sudeikis plays the Ted Lasso. Sudeikis is most known for his performances in Horrible Boss and We’re The Millers, both are popular comedy movies. Hannah Waddingham (Benidorm, Winter Ridge) portrays Rebecca Welton. Both will continue with their roles in season three along with Brendan Hunt (We’re The Millers), Jeremy Swift (Gosford Park), Juno Temple (Magic Magic), and other main casts.
Ted Lasso is one of the most critically acclaimed series in recent years. Sudeikis’ performance is universally praised. Both seasons scored above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. It already won four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and seven Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Recently, the whole cast won the best ensemble at the 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Filming for season 3 began on March 7, 2022.
