Jesse Plemons Cast Opposite Elizabeth Olsen in HBO Max’s ‘Love and Death’

Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Fargo) is slated to join the cast of HBO Max’s Love and Death, according to Deadline. Plemons will star opposite Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) in the limited series.

Love and Death is based on the true story of Betty Gore’s murder in 1980 by Texan housewife Candy Montgomery (Olsen), according to Deadline. A collection of articles from Texas Monthly and the book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs serve as inspiration for the series.

Deadline reports that the story “revolves around two churchgoing couples enjoying small-town family life in Texas, until somebody picks up an ax.”

Plemons will play Betty’s husband, Allan Gore, according to Deadline.

As previously reported, Love and Death isn’t the only series based on the Betty Gore case. Universal Studio Group’s UCP is developing limited series starring Elizabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Candy Montgomery, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Following several smaller TV appearances, Plemons’s first big role was playing Landry Clarke in the critically-acclaimed Friday Night Lights series. He went on to star in Breaking Bad, Olive Kitteridge, Fargo and Black Mirror. His film credits include Judas and the Black Messiah, I’m Thinking of Ending Things and The Irishman.

Love and Death is written by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and will be directed by Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland). Kelley and Glatter executive produce alongside Nicole Kidman (The Undoing), Per Saari (Big Little Lies), Texas Monthly’s Scott Brown and Megan Creydt, Matthew Tinker (The Crazy Ones), Michael Klick (Homeland) and Helen Verno (Suburban Madness).
