Jeremy Renner Open to Hawkeye Television Show

It seems like the sharpshooter archer might finally want to stand in the spotlight.

During a feature panel at the Silicon Valley Comic Con yesterday, before a mass of eager Marvel-ites who have seen a plenty number of their favorite masked vigilantes star in their own individual films and TV shows, Jeremy Renner revealed that he would be entirely open to leading a Hawkeye-centered series, Comicbook.com reports.

“I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world,” said the Avengers actor.

He then amended, saying, “These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.”

Though a Hawkeye television show would make sense, the potential project may not be up to anyone but Disney at this point. Back in 2014, Marvel–whose studios, of course, are owned by Disney, who also now has its hands busy with Star Wars–announced a five year-plan to roll out eleven new movies. Two of those have already been released (Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man), and the third, Captain America: Civil War, is set to premiere in May, but other than a few additions here and there–Deadpool, for example, which has been one of the highest grossing assets that Marvel has ever had–the superhero studios have mostly locked themselves in through 2019.

Renner himself has commitments to the Marvel plan, as Hawkeye will presumably play a role in the next couple of Avengers sequels as well.

Regardless of chance, there is no harm in dreaming. After all, Marvel Studios have been a little more relaxed, and frankly secretive, with their line of superhero shows. The company took a chance on Jessica Jones, which in return performed massively well, raking in the viewership and praise alike, as well as signing for a second season and a spinoff show, Luke Cage. Also snagging itself a second season–which was recently released on Netflix–was Daredevil.

Marvel also recently revealed their casting choice for the star of their next TV project, Iron Fist.

Still, the most any Marvel film characters have managed to cross over from the silver screen to the streaming one is settle for a name-drop; Hawkeye would be the first hero to appear in both movies and in TV in this renaissance period.

Then again, he may not have to make the leap. Another fan at the Silicon Comic Con asked Renner if he’d do a buddy movie with Scarlett Johanson’s Black Widow, to which the Avengers actor replied:

“In a second. I’d love to do that.”

No matter what Marvel decides to do with their bowhunter Avenger, Renner/Hawkeye’s next appearance will be in Captain America: Civil War, where he’ll join the titular character’s side against Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man.
