After the end of Prime Video’s The Boys and Vought Rising coming next year, things appear to be turning up for Jensen Ackles (Vought Rising, The Boys). According to Deadline, Ackles will star in a new crime thriller project on MGM+ called Rules of Prey.
For those who don’t know, Rules of Prey is a novel written by John Sandford (Revenge Prey, The Investigator) tells a story about a killer who plays a cat and mouse game with Lieutenant Lucas Davenport. Davenport is drawn out of his seclusion and is brought back into the world of the law where he must investigate the confounding murders that are happening in Minneapolis. Ackles will play Lucas Davenport in the upcoming series. According to Deadline, Ackles’ portrayal of Lucas Davenport is described as a righteous avenging angel with a sharp mind, unconventional methods and approaches, and unwillingness to let the law get in the way of justice. Season one of the series will consist of eight episodes and will premiere on MGM+ in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.
According to Deadline, showrunner Bruce Terris (Perpetual Grace, LTD, Patriot), issued this statement when it came to Ackles’ casting in the series: “Jensen Ackles’ classic leading man charisma, combined with Bruce Terris’ skillful adaptation of John Sandford’s enduringly popular Prey series is an excellent fit for MGM+,” said Michael Wright, global head of MGM+. “The series delves into the psychological depth and suspense that made Sandford’s novels unmissable reading and continues MGM+’s commitment to bringing classic Hollywood storytelling to modern audiences.” Terris was the executive producer for the series DTF St. Louis which won an Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
