Eric Kirpke (Supernatural, Gen V) has spoken on Queen Maeve not being in the final season of The Boys. Actress Dominique McElligot (Leap Year, Moon) retired from acting before the filming of season five. Although Kirpkie asked if she could come back for a couple of days to tie up loose ends with her character, she was unable to attend due to other commitments. Kirpkie said the relationship has remained amicable despite her exit and that McElligot had reached out to him when he lost his home in the Palisades Fire in 2025.

Although unable to have her shoot any new footage, Kirpkie did say that the writing team wanted to pay homage to her character in the recap, “In a way to show that Maeve passed the torch to Annie, and now Annie is passing the torch to Marie. And there is this lineage of women, of strong women, that started with Maeve. And so we wanted to bring up Maeve’s spirit if we couldn’t actually bring her up in person.”
Maeve begins the series as a member of the seven and an oppositional force to The Boys. As the series progresses, she always shows hints that her moral compass is beginning to shift. A major event was an interaction with Homelander on a plane that lingered throughout the entire series. Eventually, she becomes an ally to The Boys and a mentor to Annie.
The Boys’ final season just aired on Prime Video. All episodes are now available to watch. Although it remains critically acclaimed, the final season has received mixed reactions from fans, earning a 52% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, viewership has remained strong with the fifth season receiving 57 million views, the most ever for Prime Video.
Although the flagship series is coming to an end, a prequel series entitled Vought Rising will premiere in 2027. The other ,Gen V spin-off was canceled after two seasons, but many of its characters were central to the fifth season of The Boys.
