Last month, it appeared Jeffrey Tambor would join the group of high-profile actors such as Kevin Spacey and Louis CK fired from their current projects in the wake of sexual harassment allegations made against them. In November, Tambor’s Transparent co-star Trace Lysette went public with claims that Tambor had sexually harassed her on the set of the Amazon series. Shortly after that, Tambor released statement suggesting that he would not return to the show.
Now it appears this might not be the case. According to Variety, Tambor has rolled back his previous statement and insists that no permanent decision over his leaving the show has been made yet. In November, Tambor lamented that Transparent’s “politicized atmosphere” meant that the show “is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago.” He went on to say, “I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.”
However, earlier this week, a spokesperson for Tambor clarified what the actor meant with a new statement. “What he said was that given the toxic atmosphere and the politicization on the set, it’s very hard for him to see how he can possibly return,” the spokesperson said. “But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon.”
The fate of Transparent is unclear at this point. As Tambor’s spokesperson suggested, Amazon has not made any formal announcement as to whether Transparent’s lead actor will return or what the general future of Transparent will be.
The company is currently in the midst of an investigation of the allegations made against Tambor. Amazon has not released any other information concerning the investigation or Tambor.
