Javier Bardem to Star in Apple TV+ Drama Series Reimagining ‘Cape Fear’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, Dune), is set to expand his television career with a starring role in a reimagining of Cape Fear for Apple TV+. Fresh off his first TV project, Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Bardem will lead the cast and serve as an executive producer on the series, which has been given a 10-episode order.

The new series, described by Apple TV+ as a “Hitchcockian thriller,” will retain the essence of the original story while delving into America’s obsession with true crime in the modern era. Bardem will play Max Cady, a chilling and vengeful figure who torments Amanda and Steve Bowden, a married pair of attorneys with ties to his dark past.

Also mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation draws from both the 1962 film directed by John Lee Thompson (The Guns Of Navarone, !0 To Midnight) and the 1991 remake helmed by Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island, Taxi Driver). Nick Antoscan (Channel Zero, Antlers), known for true crime dramas such as A Friend of the Family and The Act, will write and showrun the series.

Produced by Universal Content Productions, the show continues Apple’s collaborations with both Scorsese and Amblin, following the success of Killers of the Flower Moon and Masters of the Air. Bardem is also tied to another Apple project, the racing film F1.

As mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter. this series is anticipated to blend tension and psychological depth, offering a gripping reinterpretation of a classic story for today’s audiences. Production details and additional casting announcements are expected in the coming months.
