Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers) will appear in Ted Lasso, a new sports comedy series, on Apple TV+. The series will premiere on the platform Friday, August 14, according to Deadline.

In the title role, Sudeikis will play Ted Lasso, a small-scale college football coach from Kansas who is recruited to coach a professional English soccer team, despite having no soccer coaching experience. Sudeikis will be returning to this role after he initially played Lasso in a 2013 commercial to promote the actual Premier League soccer season on NBC Sports, via Cult of Mac.

Supporting cast includes Stephen Manas (Out of Frame) as Richard Montlaur, Brendan Hunt (Horrible Bosses 2) as Coach Beard, Adam Colborne (Journey’s End) as Baz and Bronson Webb (Still Life) as Jeremy.

Co-created by Sudeikis and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Ted Lasso will also feature Sudeikis as an executive producer. From Doozer Productions, Lawrence and Jeff Ingold (The Office) will also serve as executive producer while Liza Katzer (Whiskey Cavalier) will have a co-executive producer credit. Ted Lasso, written by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Hunt and and Joe Kelly (How I Met Your Mother), will be created in association with Warner Bros. Television and is based on a pre-existing format/cast of characters from NBC Sports, via Deadline.
