Writer-producer Jason Ning, known for shows such as Lucifer and Perception, has signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, and set in motion development for a new series: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, according to Deadline. The series will be one of four television adaptations from Wang DuLu’s Crane Iron Pentalogy, chronicle of struggles of four generations of a type of Chinese warrior folk hero called Youxia, via Deadline.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon had been previously adapted in 2000 by director Ang Lee (Life of Pi, Brokeback Mountain) to a feature film, which starred Chow Yun-Fat (The Replacement Killers, Curse of the Golden Flower) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Crazy Rich Asians) and won the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film, according to Deadline. The film was produced and distributed by Sony, and Sony recently gained the rights again to the property, via Deadline.
In addition to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Ning is a co-executive producer of the Sony Pictures Television produced Silk: Spider Society, a live-action series based on different characters from the Spider-Man universe, according to Deadline. Ning’s other work includes Burn Notice, The Expanse, Killer Women, and two upcoming anticipated series The Brother’s Sun and Mrs. Davis, via Deadline.
Alongside Ning, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s producers include Roy Lee (Barbarian, The Ring), Miri Yoon (Jonah Hex, Don’t Worry Darling), and Jonathan Levin (Legends, Charmed), according to Deadline.
