Jason Katims Talks The Possibility of a ‘Parenthood’ Revival

Even though NBC’s family dramedy Parenthood ended a year and a half ago, show creator Jason Katims has given fans an incredibly small glimmer of hope that something could happen with the show. According to TVLine, Katims said “There’s nothing happening right now, but when the time is right I would love to revisit it.”

Katims added that he’s been paying attention to how Netflix has been handling the Gilmore Girls revival, which, coincidentally, stars Lauren Graham, who also starred on Parenthood as Sarah Braverman for the show’s entire run. He also said that, when he has ideas for a revival, he’d look at how to get the cast back together and find an outlet that would want the show to air or stream the revival.

After the story was published, Mae Whitman, who played Amber on the show, tweeted her excitement about the potential for a revival.

And while in the series finale of the show, viewers got to see what the characters were up to after the death of Braverman family patriarch Zeek Braverman (Craig T. Nelson), Katims said that a potential revival series of the show would have to take place in a few years so the characters would be able to grow.

As for the potential for a Parenthood television movie? TVLine reported that NBC was working on a holiday-themed movie that didn’t end up happening, but also said that it may be happening in the future.

So for now, Parenthood fans, we’ll still have to wait for more news about whether we’ll get to revisit one of our favorite fictional families.

Parenthood was beloved by viewers and critics but failed to produce strong numbers for NBC, but it still managed to air six seasons on the network. The show’s finale, which aired in January 2015, featured the wedding of Sarah Braverman and Hank Rizzoli (Ray Romano). In the final minutes of the show, Camille (Bonnie Bedelia) walked in to her living room while talking to Zeek, only to discover that he’d died in his sleep. The family gathered one last time on a baseball field to spread Zeek’s ashes and played a family game of baseball. The final baseball game was filled with small flash-forward scenes that showed what the members of the Braverman family were doing after the death of Zeek.

All six seasons of Parenthood are available for streaming on Netflix.
