Japanese Band ‘Babymetal’ to Team up with Warner Bros for Animated Digital Series

According to Deadline, Babymetal, the Japanese pop-metal music sensation will star in a digital series. The band is partnering up with Warner Bros’ digital studio Blue Ribbon Content and Japan’s Amuse Inc. subsidiary Amuse USA. Together they are developing an original hybrid live-action and animated shortform show. Key Kobayashi, the creator and manager of Babymetal, aka Kobametal, is also producing.

The action-adventure series will be centered inside the magical world of heavy metal music as it comes under heavy fire. And as a result, one lonely god, Kitsune, forms the warrior band Babymetal to help save everyone. In the show, Su-Metal, Yuimetal and Moametal will join forces to redefine the metal genre. The series will also feature live-action performances from the group, who will enter the animated world via a secret portal.

The band consists of three teenage girls with choreographed dance moves to accompany their vocals. Babymetal’s popularity extends past Japan. The Japanese pop-metal band currently has two albums and has been successful in attaining cross-continent success. Recently, the group caught the attention of the Red Hot Chili Peppers who loved their music and are taking them on their first UK tour in five years. Additionally, Babymetal’s first studio album earned the number one spot on Billboard’s World Album chart and the official live music video for their debut album’s lead single, “Gimme Chocolate!!,’ has over 60 million views on YouTube to date.

The band’s second album, Metal Resistance, made them the first Japanese act in over 50 years to land spot in the Billboard 200 album chart’s top 40.
