The actor is set to return to the show in its final season.
James Van Der Beek will return to How I Met Your Mother this season, playing Robin’s ex-boyfriend Simon once again.
The news was revealed by the actor himself, who tweeted a picture of two scripts, one for Friends With Better Lives, the other for HIMYM, adding that “like many Americans, [he was] working two jobs today. Luckily, neither one requires actual work”.
Van Der Beek’s role of Simon is described as a frustrated musician who once dated Robin – it is not clear whether his reappearance will mean trouble for Robin and Barney’s wedding, or simply a flashback to Robin’s life.
The script in the actor’s tweet was for an episode titled Bedtime Stories, which is the set to be the 12th episode of this season.
