James Gunn Says ‘Peacemaker’ Season Two Will Still Release Amid Warner Bros.-Discovery Cuts

James Gunn (Guardians Of The Galaxy) took to Twitter on Tuesday to confirm that the popular HBO Max DC series Peacemaker, which Gunn writes and directs, will still be releasing its second season despite cuts from the new Warner Bros.-Discovery merger, as Deadline noted. Gunn confirmed that the show’s second season is still releasing in a reply to a concerned fan on the social media site.

The next day, Gunn tweeted a behind-the-scenes photo with one of the show’s stars, Jennifer Holland (Sun Records), further confirming that the series will be continuing.

Fans became concerned that Peacemaker may not be continuing after it was announced that the upcoming DC film Batgirl was surprisingly among the cuts of the new Warner Bros.-Discovery merger as the company has now decided to emphasize blockbuster films and de-emphasize scripted television series, like Peacemaker, according to Deadline.

The show did very well in its first season, scoring a 94% among critic reviews and a 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The series has also received multiple award nominations, including an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or a Variety Program at the upcoming ceremony in September. It has also received nominations for the 2022 Hollywood Critics Association Television Awards including Best Writing in a Streaming Series, Comedy for Gunn and Best Actor in a Streaming Series, Comedy for star John Cena (The Suicide Squad).

Peacemaker stars Cena, Holland, Danielle Brooks (Orange Is The New Black), Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1), Chukwudi Iwuji (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3), Steve Agee (New Girl), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Annie Chang (Shades Of Blue), Lochlyn Munro (White Chicks), and Dee Bradley Baker (Star Wars: The Clone Wars).
