James Gunn Announces That New ‘DC Crime’ Series Is Both A Jimmy Olsen And Gorilla Grodd Show

DC Studios and HBO Max recently confirmed that a Superman spinoff show, currently titled DC Crime, but in an Instagram post by igndotcom, it is now known that James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) states the series will be both a Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd series. Production for the series should soon be underway, according to Gunn.

The series starring Jimmy Olsen is a mockumentary-style mystery-comedy presented as a fictional true-crime docuseries. DC Crime will follow the Daily Planet photojournalist and his fellow reporters as they investigate and report on Meta-Humans in Metropolis. The first season would focus on Gorilla Grodd, a DC villain best known for his battles with The Flash.

Jimmy Olsen is a photojournalist working for the Daily Planet, he is close friends with Lois Lane and Clark Kent. Gorilla Grodd is a villain who is originally part of a highly intelligent society of gorillas that gained psychic powers and other abilities after coming into contact with an alien spaceship.

According to Variety, Tony Yacenda (Funeral Kings, Timmy Muldoon And The Search For The Shadoweyes Bandit) and Dan Perrault (The Residence, American Vandal) serve as writers, executive producers, and showrunners on the series. Gunn and Peter Safran (The Batman Part II, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) of DC Studios will be executive producers, with DC Studios’ Galen Vaisman (Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Blue Beettle) overseeing production. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

The new DC Universe under Gunn keeps expanding with shows like Creature Commandos, The Penguin, Lanterns,  and Peacemaker. Other series announced to possibly be joining the new DCU include Waller, Booster Gold, My Adventures with Green Lantern, DC Super Powers, Starfire, Paradise Lost and Blue Beetle spin-off. Currently, the newest instalment to the franchise is the Supergirl film, which airs on June 26.

All DCU shows and films are available to stream on HBO Max.
