James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ Getting Primetime Special, Possible Series Spinoff

James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke segment from The Late Late Show is getting a primetime special, Variety reports.

on March 29 at 10 p.m., CBS will air The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special, featuring past car rides with famous vocal artist as well as a new one. Jennifer Lopez will be joining Corden to sing along to the radio while they drive around Los Angeles.

According to Variety, in a recent statement, Corden said, “I have loved every minute of hosting “The Late Late Show.” It’s been an incredible year. I look forward to this hour on primetime to look at some of my favorite moments and share a couple of great new ones. I can’t wait!”

Past Carpool Karaoke segments have gone viral on YouTube with millions of views. The first time The Late Late Show aired the segment, Mariah Carey joined Corden “on his way to work.” The video now has over 20 million views on YouTube. Artists such as Justin Beiber, Jennifer Hudson, Elton John, Sia, and all of One Direction have joined Corden for a pleasant drive to sing along to some of their hit songs (and more). Corden’s Carpool Karaoke featuring Adele just about broke YouTube with over 84 million views. The Late Late Show‘s YouTube channel currently has over 800 million views in total and close to 4 million subscribers.

Corden’s late night show has barely even been on the air for a year. The Late Late Show premiered on CBS on March 23 of last year, and already has had incredible success, especially on YouTube.

Because of the success of the Carpool Karaoke segment, now there is talk of a spinoff series. Similarly, due to the popularity of the lip sync battle on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, now there is the Lip Sync Battle series on Spike TV. TV Guide reports that now the same network is working on Caraoke Showdown, which would not be hosted by Corden (sadly) but instead would have Craig Robinson (The Office) driving celebrities around while singing along to the radio.

The Late Late Show with James Corden airs weeknights at 12:37 following The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.
