Iwan Rheon and Nine More Cast in Upcoming Peacock Gladiator Drama Series ‘Those About to Die’

According to Deadline, Iwan Rheon, best known for his role as the merciless Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones, is just one of nine new cast members being added to Peacock’s upcoming epic gladiator drama series, Those About to Die. The show will be directed by legendary disaster movie filmmaker Roland Emmerich (2012, The Day After Tomorrow) with principal photography already underway at Rome’s renowned Cinecittà Studios.

As Deadline reports, Rheon has been cast as the enterprising crime boss Tenax and will be taking over the role for Lorenzo Richelmy (Marco Polo, Jumping From High Places), who was forced to drop out of the series due to scheduling conflicts. This is the second project which Rheon is slated to appear in this year alongside the German musical fantasy film, The Magic Flute.

Rheon will be joined by the acting talents of stars such as Rupert Penry-Jones (The Batman), Kyshan Wilson (Viola), Alicia Edogamhe (Summertime), Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings: Valhalla), Liraz Charhi (Tehran), Eneko Sagardoy (Counting Sheep), Pepe Barroso (High Seas), and Gonçalo Almeida (The Girl from Saturn). Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, Armageddon Time) will also appear in the show as Vesparian, the Emperor of Rome and head of the Flavian bloodline.

Of those in the recent casting announcement, Charhi is set to portray Berenice, the feared queen of the conquered Judea’s held prisoner in Rome. Penry-Jones will play Marsus, an affluent nobleman and retired general who seeks to take the throne for himself, while Edogamhe plays a slave who is sold to the ambitious aristocrat.

Wilson will be playing Aura, an up-and-coming female gladiator in training with Johannesson, who portrays the towering Norse gladiator, Viggo. Lastly, Sagardoy, Barroso, and Almeida are portraying the tight-knit Corsi brothers.

Those About to Die will be co-directed by Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Lazarus Project, The Collini Case) with Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot) writing the script.

Currently, Peacock has yet to announce when a release date for Those About to Die can be expected.
