‘Iron Fist’ Breakout Actress Jessica Henwick Addresses ‘The Defenders’

Jessica Henwick is convinced that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are going to be head over heels in love with Netflix’s The Defenders. The Iron Fist actress spoke to Entertainment Weekly to give her opinion about the upcoming superhero team up series amid her currently hectic schedule which has included Star Wars appearances and a role on Game of Thrones.

Henwick plays Colleen Wing, a New York City martial arts instructor with a mysterious past. Though her secrets were brought into the open in Iron Fist, there’s still plenty more development to look forward to in her relationship with Finn Jones as Danny Rand. How she will respond to the other three heroes, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, and Mike Colter’s Luke Cage.

Henwick spoke to what’s going on with Colleen following the dramatic conclusion of Iron Fist. “We pick up with Colleen not in New York, which is crazy, as all the shows have been predominantly in New York. We find her a month after we left her. It’s really interesting she hasn’t been able to deal with the emotional trauma she dealt with in Iron Fist. So it builds to a head and she explodes in Defenders.”

She also gave readers her best pitch about how pleased she and the rest of the staff are with the finished product. “It’s good, it’s really good. I think people are going to love seeing characters interact with each other, they’re going to see Colleen and Misty (Simone Missick), they’re going to love seeing Luke Cage with the Iron Fist, Danny Rand. I think fans are going to freak out.

Henwick’s Colleen Wing was considered the high note of Marvel’s latest chronicle in their Netflix ventures. Despite a degree of critical backlash regarding Iron Fist as a whole, her performance and characterization were remarkably well received. As a warrior and a woman, Wing is sure to connect with both new superheroes and their less powerful compatriots.
