According to ScreenRant, new information on Marvel’s animated R-rated series Marvel Zombies has surfaced. The series has TV-MA rating and is one of the few MCU projects to be rated for mature audiences. Other projects include Deadpool 3, Blade, and Disney+’s Echo. Iman Vellani (Avengers: Secret Wars), who is known in the MCU as Ms. Marvel, spoke with The Direct about her character Kamala Khan and how she is the center of the zombie series. Vellani states that the series has recently wrapped up recording and went on to describe her character in the series by saying, “She’s basically the Frodo of the story.”
Vellani said, “We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.’ And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey. And, yes, they’re only the voices, and I don’t get to hear their voices in real-time. But just, it’s my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it’s just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”
According to ScreenRant, the adult-rated animated series is zombie-themed spin on one of the episodes of What If…? and will be more violent due to its mature rating. The series is based on a comic run that has many gruesome deaths which will most likely happen in the animated adaptation. Many MCU heroes will be featured in the series such as Hailee Steinfeld’s (Hackeye) Kate Bishop, Simu Liu’s (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh’s (Black Widow) Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s (Stranger Things) Red Guardian, and many others.
Marvel Zombies is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
