ICG Publicists To Present Patrick Stewart With The Television Showperson Of The Year Award

Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Loganwill receive the 2024 Television Showperson of the Year Award from the ICG Publicists Guild, according to Deadline. Stewart also starred in the eighth installment of the Star Trek series Star Trek: Picard playing Captain Jean Luc Picard. The show premiered January 23, 2020 and had three seasons with no current plans for fourth season

Stewart was in 176 episodes in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Captain Picard of a crewed spacecraft belonging to the fictitious Starfleet.

In Star Trek: Picard, retired admiral Jean-Luc Picard begins a new chapter in his life. He is still grieving over the death of Lieutenant Commander Data and the destruction of Romulus. 

The Star Trek: Picard actor will accept the honor on March 8th at the 61st Annual ICG Publicist Awards luncheon, which will take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, according to Deadline.

The Television Showperson of the Year award is given to a person whose achievements on television most exemplify the unique spirit that is conventionally associated with showmanship.

As Deadline notes, Publicists Award Chairs Tim Menke & Sheryl Main stated in a joint statement: “We are honored to celebrate Stewart’s venerable career, including the recently-completed final season of CBS Studios/Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard, in which he reprised his signature role, first appearing in 1987, in the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

According to Deadline, Stewart has been acting for over sixty years. Stewart is a theater professional with classical training who began his career at the Royal Shakespeare Company before venturing into film and television. His roles have earned him nominations for Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics Choice Awards in addition to three Olivier Awards. His most well-known roles are those of Professor Charles Xavier from the X-Men and Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek.

Deadline reports that, in 2023, he achieved immediate success as a New York Times best-selling author following the release of his memoir, Making It So.
