AFC Richmond has received the newest addition to their team. According to TVLine, Sarah Niles (I May Destroy You) has been cast in the second season of Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso.
Niles will join the cast as a team psychologist who will attempt to help Jason Sudeikis’ (We’re the Millers) Ted Lasso better understand his team of soccer players. Via TVLine, Niles’ role will be as a recurring guest star throughout season two.
Lasso was first featured as a character in NBC Sports promotions back in 2013. The ad campaign set out to advertise NBC Sports’ coverage of Premier League games, and poked fun at the differences between American football and English football using Lasso as the punchline for most of such jokes.
The series aired on Apple TV+ on August 14, 2020 and according to TVLine, was quickly renewed for a second season only a few short days later. The series was then renewed prior to the beginning of production on the second season in October 2020 for a third season. Currently, the show is in the midst of production on season two, which began filming in the middle of January.
Ted Lasso has received positive feedback from critics and fans alike since the first season began streaming. Less than a week ago at the Golden Globes, Sudekis won Best Actor In a TV Series – Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of the lovable yet clueless American soccer coach. According to TVLine, Apple TV+ has additionally claimed that the series has set completion records for an original series, speaking to the number of viewers who have watched the entirety of the first season.
While a premiere date for the second season of Ted Lasso has not yet been announced, the co-creator of the series Bill Lawrence (writer, Scrubs) announced that the series will not be including any coronavirus pandemic storylines. According to TVLine, the series hopes to offer viewers “escapist entertainment” instead of taking the path of many shows which have continued to include pandemic life within their storylines.
