Hulu’s ‘Woke’ Adds to a List of Productions Paused by Positive COVID-19 Cases

More television productions continue to hit the pause on production after positive COVID-19 cases. Hulu’s Woke has suspended its production on its second season in Atlanta on Tuesday after a Zone A production member tested positive for the virus, via Variety.

Woke, starring Lamorne Morris (New Girl), follows Keef Knight, a cartoon artist on the verge of mainstream success who sees and hears inanimate objects and becomes more racially sensitive after being racially profiled by a police officer. The comedy contains both live-action and animated elements.

As the Delta variant surges in the United States and England, many television productions seem to be at risk of contracting COVID-19. The Hulu comedy is one of many productions this week to be halted or suspended due to positive COVID-19 tests on set. Netflix’s Bridgerton had to pause production in the UK indefinitely due to two positive cases in one week, and HBO’s House of the Dragon had paused production on Monday due to Zone A production member testing positive for the virus. American Horror Story has also suspended production on its tenth season in Los Angeles for the rest of the week, and HBO’s Westworld will pause production on its fourth season for two days as well for a Zone A crew member testing positive, according to Deadline.

According to Variety, unvaccinated members of the Woke crew came into close contact with the person who tested positive, and they will have to quarantine for two weeks — which will require replacements for a few of them. Vaccinated members of the Zone A production crew will not have to quarantine.

Hollywood unions came up with a new short-term agreement that relaxed COVID protocols during TV and movie productions which went into effect on Monday. Those who are in Zone A are required to receive vaccinations which affect actors, directors, cinematographers, and others who are required on set (costume, hair and makeup, etc.). These protocols also require verification that a crew member is vaccinated.

A release date has not been announced for Woke season two.
