Hulu Previews New Seth Meyers Animated Series ‘The Awesomes’ at Comic-Con

Seth Meyers and Hulu promoted the first episode of their new animated comedy series the Awesomes at Comic-Con yesterday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Awesomes was created by Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker and will be produced by Lorne Michael’s production company, Broadway Video Entertainment. Meyers has been acted on Saturday Night Live since 2001, while Shoemaker has served as a producer for the series since the early 90s, as reported by IMDB.

The comedy “revolves around the greatest superhero team in history and what happens after its most powerful members retire.” Meyers said his and Shoemaker’s love of comic books provided an “instant bond,” in which the idea for The Awesomes was born, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Awesomes will have a well-known cast including current and former Saturday Night Live members Kenan Thompson, Taran Killam, Bill Hader and Rachel Dratch as well as Ike Barinholtz, Rashida Jones, Bobby Lee, Paula Pell and Emily Spivey. This Comic-Con was the first time the cast came together as a group, as Meyers said, “Everybody up here has a million things going on; we had to grab people in the middle of the night to record their lines,” noted the Hollywood Reporter.

In wake of recent streaming sensations Arrested Development and House of Cards on Netflix, Hulu will stream the new series starting August 1, with Xbox 360 users given the early release date of July 25.
