Hulu Charters UK Comedy ‘Dinosaur,’ A Journey Through the Life of an Autistic Woman

Jumping out of the bag from a Variety exclusive, the latest comedy, Dinosaur, from Fleabag producer Two Brothers just got new U.S. partner, Hulu. Dinosaur, originally deputized in 2021 by BBC Three through BBC Scotland and distributor All3Media Internationally, has sold the series to the U.S. streaming service. Hulu will co-commission a new season of the comedy flanking the BBC.

Ashley Storrie (Romance & Adventure), starring as Nina, a thirty-something autistic woman, adores living with her best friend and sister, Evie. After flash flooding into an engagement after a six-week long dating binge, Evie elbows Nina into being her maid of honor. Nina dissolves into a single-digit lump of pixels as she is forced to shovel her way out of the cave-in caused by her sister’s feverishly snap decision. With this new challenge, Nina is lead through a quest of comically buoyant self-understanding.

Created by Storrie and Matilda Curtis (Goodbye Christopher Robin), the show is based on Curtis’s original idea running alongside neurodiverse writers, Storrie included. Two Brothers’ Daniel Walker (The Tourist), Sarah Hammond (Liar), Jack Williams (Angela Black), and Harry Williams (Baptiste) will executive produce while Catriona Renton (Cheat) will co-executive produce. Brian Coffey (Dead Shot) will be a producer and Niamh McKeown (Ginny Reaper) will direct. Director of BBC Comedy, Jon Petrie (People Just Do Nothing) and head of commissioning for BBC Scotland, Louise Thornton, commissioned the show.

Thornton (May Contain Nuts) commented that she has supported Storrie “on her broadcasting journey for a number of years now with a variety of projects.” Thornton added, “We’re delighted to see her taking a leading role in both a performance and writing capacity alongside Matilda. This series is another example of BBC Scotland’s commitment to developing Scottish talent and bringing it to mainstream audiences both across the U.K. and internationally. It’s an exciting project and we can’t wait to see it hit the screens.”

The show will be produced in association with All3Media International. Williams and Williams stated, “We are so excited to be bringing this wonderful series to life with the BBC and Hulu. It is a joyful and hilarious comedy full of heart with a fresh perspective. Matilda and Ashley tell a heartfelt love story between two sisters that holds a mirror up to the inconsistencies of the neurotypical world. We can’t wait for Nina’s story to develop on screen.”

Executive VP of Americas at All3Media International, Sally Habbershaw, added, “We are thrilled that Hulu has boarded this wonderful, tender project that looks at the complicated emotions of love and romance in a unique and sensitive way. The wonderful world created by Matilda and Ashley and the neurodiverse writing team is in the incredibly capable hands of Two Brothers Pictures whose track record with female lead voices is exceptional.”

Dinosaur is in production for Hulu in the U.S. via Two Brothers Pictures, BBC Three, BBC iPlayer, and BBC Scotland in alliance with Hulu and All3Media International.
