Howard Gordon writes American adaption of “Nevelot” for Apple’s streaming service

Coming to the new Apple streaming service is an untitled eight-episode drama based off of Israeli drama Nevelot (translated to Bastards in English). The American adaptation has not confirmed an official title. The drama will be written by Howard Gordon (Homeland, 24) he will also serve as showrunner alongside Warren Leight (Law and Order: SVU and NBC’s upcoming Law and Order: Hate Crimes). Both will be executive producers with Gere, Sabo, Yardeni, Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Rachel Kaplan, Peter Traugott, Yoram Mokady and Mirit Toovi.

The eight-episode miniseries is about two Vietnam Vets and best friends (which one will be played by Richard Gere) find their lives upended when the woman, they both loved fifty years ago, gets killed by a car. As their lifelong regrets and secrets collide with their resentment of today’s ‘millennials’. An act of self-defense snowball’s into a tragic series of events. Like I stated above it’s an American adaptation of the Israeli television show Nevelot which was created by Dror Sabo, Daphna Levin, and Lee Yardeni and was based on Yoram Kaniuk’s novel of the same name.

Both Gordon and Leight have previously worked on successful American adaptations of Israeli television shows. Gordon co-created and executive producer of Showtime’s Homeland. Leight was an executive producer and showrunner for HBO’s In Treatment.
