ABC has given a production commitment to a new drama series helmed by Peter Nowalk (The Hollywood Assistant’s Handbook, Operazione N.A.S.) according to TVLine. The How to Get Away with Murder creator’s second series for the network will be titled Valley of the Gods, a show set in the tech wild west of Silicon Valley.
According to TV Line, the new drama is described as following “the most powerful people in Silicon Valley and the hungry, underestimated outsiders trying to claw their way in.” Nowalk will steer the series along with The Bold Type‘s executive producer, Joanna Coles (Love Rules: How to Find a Relationship in a Digital World). Nowalk currently has a three-year overall deal at ABC.
How to Get Away With Murder recently wrapped six-season run as part of ABC’s “TGIT,” a primetime lineup that also included Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, and Scandal. All shows hailed from Shonda Rhimes’ (Off the Map, Private Practice) production company, Shondaland. The show starred Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Doubt) as the brilliantly troubled defense attorney and law professor, Annalise Keating. Despite her success in the courtroom, her personal life was plagued by abuse, loss, and substance abuse. The issues reach a peak when her star interns at her law firm become the prime suspects in her husband’s murder.
The show starred Alfred Enoch (Harry Power and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Trust Me), Aja Naomi King (The Birth of a Nation, A Black Lady Sketch Show), Matt McGorry (Orange Is the New Black, Uncorked), Charlie Weber (Jarhead 3: The Seige, Coyote Lake), Karla Souza (We Are the Nobles, Everybody Loves Somebody), Liza Weil (Gilmore Girls, Scandal), Jack Falahee (Mercy Street, Twisted), Conrad Ricamora (The Light of the Moon, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), and Billy Brown (Proud Mary, Dexter).
The series earned Davis a historic Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama in 2015. Davis became the first African American woman to win this prize in Emmy history.
