How ‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ Crossover Will Happen without Breaking the DC Universe

Today, CBS released the official poster and details for the upcoming The Flash/Supergirl crossover event airing March 28, Variety reports.

While the CW is home to multiple shows based in the DC comics universe such as Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of TomorrowSupergirl stands alone on the CBS network. Because the CW introduced most of the DC based series as spinoffs, each series takes place in the same universe, and almost all the main characters have interacted in some way, shape, or form. But if The Flash is going to pay a visit to Supergirl, someone is going to have to explain how those two worlds can collide.

So how will the Scarlet Speedster visit National City without leaving too many plot-holes behind? Since Supergirl and The Flash exist in their respective universes, The Flash will have to travel between their worlds. Easy, right? This season, The Flash has had plenty of experience crossing between alternate “Earths” already. This will allow The Flash and Supergirl to interact and team up without trying to explain why Barry has never heard of Supergirl and vice versa. And it helps to explain why the crossover will be one way, literally, since Supergirl will not be vising Team Flash in Central City anytime soon.

The crossover episode titled “Worlds Finest” will show Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) getting a visit from The Flash (Grant Gustin). The two will team up to battle Silver Banshee aka Siobhan Smythe (Italia Ricci) and Livewire (Brit Morgan). To repay him for his help, Kara must help Barry find a way back to his earth.

The promo poster CBS released is a throwback to an earlier issue of the Superman comics in which Superman and The Flash raced to see who was the fastest. Check out the awesome poster below.

Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, and Jeremy Jordan also star in Supergirl. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg and Michael Grassi wrote “Worlds Finest” and Nick Gomez directed.

Catch Supergirl on Mondays on CBS and The Flash on Tuesdays on The CW.
