Hopes of a ‘Manifest’ Return Grow as Netflix, NBC Revive Talks of a Fourth Installment

When news broke that Manifest would not be returning to NBC for a third season, fans were outraged and made a point to be vocal about it. Social media was flooded with calls for the return of the show on the cable network or another platform. According to Deadline, the outcry might actually work as both NBC and Netflix have resumed conversations with Warner Brothers TV for rights to create a fourth season.

The show revolves around the passengers of a missing plane that suddenly reappears five years later. The lives of each of the passengers has drastically changed, and the series depicts what has happened to them and their loved ones since moving on. There is also a supernatural element with the characters seeing visions of their time on the plane. The cast includes Melissa Roxburgh (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) as Michaela Stone and Josh Dallas (Once Upon a Time) as her brother, Ben.

NBC had high hopes for the drama that revolved around a missing plane. The freshman season of the show was slated at the Monday 10 pm slot, one of the most coveted at the network. As time went on, though, the hype around the show seemingly died down. Viewership decreased noticeably with each passing season, and the cable network decided to pull the plug on June 14th of this year. The cancellation seemed to be done hastily as the season three finale had aired only four days before.

As fans began to call for Manifest to return, the first two seasons of the show became available on Netflix. It instantly became a hit at the streaming site as fans old and new alike started to binge the cancelled series. The amount of hits on the show brought Netflix to the table for talks of a fourth season, but the conversation quickly went flat.

Manifest seemed to be on life support as a major network and the biggest streaming site both passed on a fourth installment. The fans never gave up, though, and #SaveManifest continued to rack up posts on all social media sites.

Finally, rumors are starting to roll in on a revival of the show with both NBC and Netflix returning to the table with Warner Brothers TV. Although nothing is set in stone, there is major traction from not one but two platforms which says a lot about the show. The huge news is a nod to the fans who fought so hard for their show. Stay tuned as these talks continue to develop, and, hopefully, end with a fourth installment of a creative show.
