For the first time, the popular hockey steamy romance TV series Heated Rivalry is now headed to the big screen! Variety has reported all six episodes of season one will premiere in movie theaters next month.
This news comes before the show’s season two release and after almost a year of the U.S and Canada series premiere. The show will release two episodes each week on a limited theater run of three weeks. Fans can start watching the series in theaters from November 6-30. Around 650 theaters nationwide will participate.
Jacob Tierney (Letterkenny, Good Neighbours) servers as the creator, showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer of the series. Tierney is the sole showrunner for Heated Rivalry. Brendan Brady (Shoresy, Fitting In) also serves as executive producer for the show. Heated Rivalry was the most-watched acquired show on HBO Max, and averaged over ten million views per episode.
Heated Rivalry follows the secret romance of rival hockey team players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov as they navigate their relationship, hockey careers, personal family and friend issues, and overall being in public eye. Shane Hollander is played by Hudson Williams (Yaga, The Altruists) and Ilya Rozanov is played by Connor Storrie (April X, Joker: Folie à Deux).
The show is based on the book series Game Changers by best-selling author Rachel Reid (Tough Guy, Common Goal). Reid has sold over three million copies of the book series just in North America alone. Reid’s inspiration of the rivalry between Hollander and Rozanov character’s drew from the real-life rivalry between NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguin’s center and forward Sidney Crosby and Washington Capital’s forward and left wing Alexander Ovechkin.
Season two of Heated Rivalry will be based on Reid’s sixth book of the Game Changer series The Long Game. Season two is currently in production, and is scheduled to premiere around April 2027.
Season one of Heated Rivalry is currently available to stream on HBO Max. Advanced tickets for the Heated Rivalry movie screening are available to purchase online now.
