Things for the HBO and Warner Bros. Television Harry Potter series are going steadily. On Monday afternoon, the two companies released the first open casting call for the three main roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, Comicbook.com reports.
According to Comicbook.com, the casting call was posted on Cast It Talent, and it’s scouting for children who “are aged 9-11 in April 2025, and a resident of the UK or Ireland.” The HBO listing adds, “We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting. For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.”
According to Comicbook.com, actors and actresses who feel they fit those requirements must submit two tapes showing their accents and read a 30-second short book of their choosing, which the Harry Potter books are exempt from. Furthermore, according to the HBO listing, they must submit a 60-second video, “telling us a bit about yourself, including your date of birth, height and where you live. In addition, please describe any family member, friend, or pet that you are particularly close to.”
The showrunner and writer for the Harry Potter Max series will be Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials). Furthermore, Gardiner will also be the executive producer alongside Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones, The Last of Us). Mylod will also direct multiple episodes for this series. This will happen alongside J.K. Rowling’s (The Running Grave, The Ink Black Heart) UK-based Brontë Film and TV (C.B. Strike, Casual Vacancy). According to Comicbook.com, other executive producers will be Neil Blair (Fantastic Beasts, Where to Find Them), Rowling, Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Midwich Cuckoos) for Brontë and David Heyman (The Secret Garden, Paddington) for Heyday Films.
