HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones: The Last Watch’ Set To Debut on May 26

Through HBO exclusively, Game of Thrones fans will have the opportunity to watch an in-depth documentary on the premium cable network, May 26th. The two-hour special will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and other partners’ streaming platforms.

Game of Thrones: The Last Watch was filmed by acclaimed British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, as she embedded herself on the series’ set, over the span of a year during the production of its last season. The documentary is set to chronicle the trials and tribulations involved in the creation of the acclaimed series’ “most ambitious and complicated season.”

The director’s previous credits include documentaries: Seahorse, Orion: The Man Who Would Be King, Pantomime, The Great Hip Hop Hoax, Sound It Out and Goth CruiseGoT: The Last Watch rounding out to her eighth.

Being granted complete access, Finlay successfully creates an intimate portrait spanning from the difficulties of production, while following the crew and the cast in temperamental weather conditions as they contend with obsessive fans’ desire for spoilers.

Debuting on a Sunday at 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT — a week after the series finale– GoT: The Last Watch will dive deeply  “into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland.”

Considered to be more than a generic “making of” story, the film details a entertaining, but heartbreaking tale told through humorous and bittersweet moments. A fitting tone for the expansive GoT audiences, who will also undoubtedly feel just as mournful and hopeful for what is to come.

Glimmer Films produces the film in partnership with HBO, David Benioff. D.B. Weiss, and Bernadette Caulfield all executive produce. Alice Powell is credited as editor, while Finlay herself, Mark Bushnell, Louise Liddy, Aaron Black, Richard Jephcote are credited as the film’s cinematographers; Hannah Peele composed the OST.
