HBO’s ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ Will Return For Season 3

HBO is bringing back A Black Lady Sketch Show for a third season, according to Variety. The renewal was announced just as the second season comes to a close—the season finale is set to air on Friday, May 28.

A Black Lady Sketch Show was created by comedian and actress Robin Thede (The Rundown with Robin Thede), according to Variety. The first season aired in August 2019 and was nominated for three Emmy Awards: outstanding variety series, directing for a variety series and guest actress in a comedy series (Angela Bassett, 9-1-1).

Thede signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV Group late last summer.

“I can’t wait to push the show even further in Season three and to keep delivering the laugh out loud content our audience loves to see,” Thede added via Variety. “I see this show as a budding comedy institution, where Black women can play fully-realized, non-stereotypical characters and I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to create that space for today’s premiere comedians.”

“Robin continues to break new ground in the world of sketch comedy. She delivered a hilariously sharp second season, and we’re looking forward to seeing where Robin, Issa Rae and the A Black Lady Sketch Show team take us in season three,” Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Comedy Programming said via Variety.

In addition to creating the series, Thede is also the showrunner. She executive produces with Issa Rae (Insecure), Dave Becky (Insecure), Jonathan Berry (The 5th Quarter), Tony Hernandez (Younger)  and Brooke Posch (Broad City).

A Black Lady Sketch Show is available for streaming on HBO Max.
