HBO Series ‘In Treatment’ To Return This May

The reimagining of the Emmy-winning drama series In Treatment is slated to return for a fourth season this May on HBO, according to an HBO press release. Uzo Aduba (Orange is the new Black) will star as the therapist and observer of the entire season, Dr. Brooke Taylor.

The 2008 series followed psychologist Paul Weston, played by Gabriel Byrne (Hereditary), who conducts therapy sessions with his patients while still dealing with the demons in his own life. Each episode either focuses on a new patient of Paul’s or even Paul himself in therapy sessions with his own therapist, played by Dianne Wiest (Edward Scissorhands). The upcoming season is set in modern-day Los Angeles and follows Brooke’s dealing of modern-day concerns with her diverse range of patients. The season will implement the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the plethora of social and cultural movements that took place this past year.

The fourth season of In Treatment will star Anthony Ramos (Hamilton) as Eladio, a health aide for a wealthy family’s son, Liza Colón-Zayas (David Makes Man), as Brooke’s longtime friend, Rita, Quintessa Swindell (Euphoria) as Laila, one of Brooke’s clients, and Joel Kinnaman (For all Mankind), as Adam, Brooke’s on and off boyfriend who continues to create burdens for her. The show is executive produced by Stephen Levinson (Euphoria), Mark Wahlberg (Mile 22), Hagai Levi (The Affair), Joshua Allen (Empire), and Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad).

The original series, which ran for three seasons, amassed both Peabody and AFI Awards wins before its cancellation in 2011. The upcoming reimagining of the series will premiere on HBO in May and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
