HBO Renews ‘House Of The Dragon’ For A Third Season

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has announced that the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has been greenlit for a third season. The series has been renewed for a third installment before the premiere of its second season on the network. Currently, there isn’t any information on how many episodes the third season will have. 

While announcing the third installment, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, praised co-creators George R.R. Martin (Dark Winds, Beauty and the Beast) and Ryan Condal (Rampage, Hercules).

“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” she said. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the second season of House of the Dragon is scheduled to premiere this Sunday, June 16th. Critics have praised the new episodes, which have scored an 88 percent positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

House of the Dragon is based on Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, Dragon. The story is a prequel to Game of Thrones and is set 200 years before the series’ events. 

The cast of the upcoming second season includes Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Emma D’Arcy (Mothering Sunday, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player Ones), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Steve Toussaint (Before We Die), Eve Best (Lucky Man), Fabien Frankel (The Serpent), Matthew Needham (The Ritual), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Tom Glynn-Carney (The King), Ewan Mitchell (The Last Kingdom), Harry Collett (Dolittle) and Bethany Antonia (Get Even).

 Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are available to stream on Max.
