According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has announced that the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has been greenlit for a third season. The series has been renewed for a third installment before the premiere of its second season on the network. Currently, there isn’t any information on how many episodes the third season will have.
While announcing the third installment, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, praised co-creators George R.R. Martin (Dark Winds, Beauty and the Beast) and Ryan Condal (Rampage, Hercules).
“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” she said. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
House of the Dragon is based on Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, Dragon. The story is a prequel to Game of Thrones and is set 200 years before the series’ events.
