Due to stay-at-home orders across the United States, millions of Americans are stuck at home consuming endless amounts of streaming content. According to Variety, the premium network HBO is releasing five hundred hours of its original programming for free on their streaming services, HBO Now and HBO Go. HBO Now typically costs $14.99 per month and HBO GO is free with an HBO cable subscription, yet a variety of its streaming content will be free for Americans for the coming weeks. The generous offer is to encourage staying at home using social media to promote the company’s #StayHomeBoxOffice campaign. Free content streaming without a subscription will start today, April 3.
With this offer, HBO is allowing the free streaming for hit series such as Veep, The Sopranos, Succession, Six Feet Under, Barry, True Blood, Silicon Valley, The Wire, and Ballers. Each and every season of the completed and on-going programs will be available to stream in addition to some original documentary series like The Case Against Adnan Syed, a story made famous by the Serial podcast.
While HBO classics like The Sopranos and The Wire will be available for Americans to stream for free, recent successes including Westworld, Big Little Lies, Chernobyl, Euphoria, and all eight seasons of Game of Thrones will not be a part of this special deal.
