HBO Releases Official Trailer For ‘The Last of Us’

The Last of Us, the new zombie drama based on the video game series of the same name, now has its official trailer released by HBO. The adaptation series was created by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II, Identity Thief) and is set to premiere on January 15, 2023, on HBO, according to Vulture.

As Comic Con Experience (CCXP) returns from the coronavirus, cast and creatives from major studios have arrived in Earth’s southern hemisphere in Brazil to unveil new trailers, posters, and behind-the-scenes teasers for all of the fan-favorite shows, movies, and more, according to Collider. The adaption of the Sony PlayStation game is one of next year’s most anticipated series.

The adaptation stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) playing Joel Miller, a smuggler who is tasked with bringing a girl who is believed to possess the cure for a world-ending virus, Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, Hilda), to the quarantine zone. The series features Joel and Ellie’s story to survive in a post-apocalyptic version of the United States.

PlayStation’s Twitter account posted a tweet announcing the release of the trailer:

Via Vulture, Nick Offerman (Pam & Tommy, Devs) is also featured in the trailer as the wacky survivalist, Bill. The series will also feature Anna Torv (Fringe, Heavenly Sword) portraying Tess, Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) portraying Tommy Miller, and Merle Dandridge (Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One) reprising the role she voiced in the video game as Marlene. The teaser released in September revealed that Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness, Heavenly Creatures) will also make an appearance. In addition, Troy Baker (BioShock Infinite, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End) and Ashley Johnson (The Avengers, Blindspot), the original Joel and Ellie, will make appearances in undisclosed roles.

In a recent interview held with Collider, Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus, August), who will be portraying Frank, a man who helped enhance a local town that Joel & Ellie pass through on their journey, has called the script for one of the approaching episodes “one of the best hours of television he’s ever seen,” claiming that this adaptation is “beautifully written.” Regardless of its macabre monsters and dystopian theme, The Last of Us is anticipated to tell a very poignant human story, according to the actor.

Stay tuned to HBO Max for the premiere of The Last of Us on January 15, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET.
