HBO Max Ends ‘Made for Love’ After Two Seasons

HBO Max has bid farewell to its first original series. Deadline reports, via an initial story by Variety, that the dark romantic comedy, Made for Love, has been canceled after two seasons. The series starring Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs, How I Met Your Mother) and Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die, Game Night) aired its season two finale on May 19.

Based on the novel by Alissa Nutting (Tampa, Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls), Made for Love followed Milioti’s Hazel Green as a married woman who escapes her controlling, tech billionaire husband’s (Magussen’s Byron Gogol) compound after he implants a tracking device within her brain, via Deadline. The device, tracking her every move and emotional trait, finds her taking refuge in her hometown with her father Herbert, played by Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Men of a Certain Age). The second season found Hazel returning to Byron’s compound in an effort to save her ailing father’s life. But the couple soon becomes prisoners to Gogol’s latest technological advancement.

“We are tremendously grateful for the truly spectacular journey of these past two seasons, courtesy of Alissa Nutting, Christina Lee, Cristin, Billy, Ray and the entire Made for Love cast and creative team – especially Zelda the talking dolphin and everyone’s favorite synthetic love interest, Diane,” HBO Max reps said in a statement via Deadline. “Like a Gogol chip, the series will always be on our minds.”

In addition to the three lead cast members, Deadline reports the series starred Dan Bakkedahl (The Heat, Legit) as Herringbone, Augusto Aguilera (Too Old to Die Young, Promised Land) as Liver, Caleb Foote (The Kids Are Alright, Hand to God) as Bennett, and Noma Dumezweni (The Undoing, Black Earth Rising) as Fiffany.

According to Deadline, the show was produced by Paramount Television Studios with Nutting and Christina Lee (Maniac, Search Party) serving as executive producers. This cancelation is the latest from the premium network following Raised by Wolves and JJ Abrams’ (Fringe, Lost) Demimonde
