HBO Limited Series About Jeffry Epstein in the Works with Adam McKay

HBO is taking on the world of convicted sex offender Jeffry Epstein in its latest limited series. The still unnamed miniseries will be based on an upcoming book by journalist Julie K. Brown, who has closely investigated Epstein’s past in covering the story for the Miami Herald. Her reporting is largely credited with helping to bring new charges against the multi-millionaire financier after he largely escaped jail time through a 2008 plea deal. The result was a new wave of legal proceedings that lead to Epstein being imprisoned in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, where he was later found dead in his prison cell.

Adam McKay, a longtime collaborator with HBO, has been attached to executive produce the series as a part of a brand new overall deal with the premium network. He has worked on shows like Succession, Funny or Die Presents, and Eastbound & Down for HBO, having directed the pilot for the former. He will executive produce the upcoming Epstein series through his new company Hyperobject Industries. Speaking on the overall deal, HBO Programming President Casey Bloys said, “We are delighted to continue our longtime collaboration with Adam McKay with this new deal. Adam is a uniquely talented director and producer, and we are looking forward to working with him and the team at Hyperobject on many projects to come.”

McKay echoed Bloys’ enthusiasm for the continued partnership, stating, “We’ve worked with Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Len Amato and the team at HBO for years on shows like Eastbound & Down, FOD Presents and Succession. They’re fearless, extremely clued in and know how to frame and present a show like no one else.”

Joining McKay as executive producer are his frequent collaborator Kevin Messick as well as Brown. HBO has yet to provide any indication as to how many episodes the series will run for, or when the show is expected to debut.
