HBO Lands Limited Series ‘The Investigation’

HBO has landed a Scandinavian limited series entitled The Investigation, as The Hollywood Reporter reports. The newest addition to HBO follows the events of the 2017 murder case of journalist Kim Wall who boarded a mini-submarine that August with the intention of interviewing its owner, Peter Madsen. While Madsen was rescued from the sinking submarine the next day, Wall was not found until ten days after when a portion of her corpse was found.

The series specifically follows Jens Møller, played by Søren Malling (Borgen), who plays the head of homicide for the Copenhagen police, and prosecutor Jakob Buch-Jepsen, played by Pilous Asbeæk (Game of Thrones). The six-episode series is written and directed by Tobias Lindholm (A War) and debuted in Sweden in September 2020.

In a statement about the release of The Investigation, Lindholm said, “It is with great humility that I created The Investigation. There is a great deal of responsibility in choosing to tell stories about events from the real world. Therefore, I am more than grateful for all the support I’ve received, including some of Denmark’s and Sweden’s most talented and acclaimed actors,” via The Hollywood Reporter

The series will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on February 1. It adds to the list of foreign series for HBO, alongside Spanish horror series 30 Coins, which is slated to debut later this week.
