HBO Greenlights ‘Euphoria’ Season Three

The Euphoria madness continues at HBO. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has renewed the hit high school drama for a third season. The series is currently halfway through its second season.

Created, written, and directed by Sam Levison (Malcolm and Marie), Euphoria centers around the life of 17-year-old drug addict, Rue (played by Zendaya), as she navigates her budding relationship with Jules (Hunter Schaffer) and has no plans on staying sober. The series also follows the hyper-masculine Nate (Jacob Elordi), hopeless romantic Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), her introverted sister, Lexi (Maude Apatow), Nate’s on-and-off girlfriend Maddy (Alexa Demie), and body-conscious Kat (Barbie Ferreira).

After a two-year hiatus, Euphoria returned to HBO in January and was met with massive success. The season two opener was viewed by over 14 million people across all platforms, which was more than double the freshman season (6.6 million viewers).

Season two has consistently rated high in viewership. According to Variety, viewership of the second season went up nearly 100% from season one. Episode four, which aired this past Sunday, drew 3.2 million viewers across platforms, making it the second most-watched episode of the series behind its previous episode.

Season two of Euphoria focuses on Rue continuing to hide her relapse from those close to her, especially Jules. Another big storyline has been Nate and Cassie’s secret relationship as they struggle to keep it from Nate’s ex and Cassie’s best friend, Maddy.

Euphoria airs every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.
