HBO Green Lights Tim Robinson’s ‘The Chair Company’

Emmy-winning writer and actor Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson) is gearing up for his next project. According to a Deadline exclusive, HBO has officially greenlit a new project of his titled The Chair Company which he co-wrote with his writing partner Zach Kanin (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson). The Chair Company will be a 30-minute comedy series diving into the world of conspiracy theories.

The show depicts a character played by Robinson himself, and the aftermath of an embarrassing moment that he experienced at work. After this incident, the character then begins to explore and investigate a conspiracy theory that may stretch a little too thin.

This series is the newest collaboration between Kanin and Robinson. The two comedy writers worked together on Saturday Night Live and eventually began to co-create their sketch comedy series’. One of these is Detroiters on Comedy Central and another is the wildly popular I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson streaming on Netflix. The latter series, I Think You Should Leave, scored Robinson two Emmy awards for  Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

HBO has been increasing the amount of comedies entered onto the streamer. Just recently, the production company announced that Gen Z icon Rachel Sennott (Bottoms, Shiva Baby) will be writing and producing brand new comedy series herself. Deadline reported that since comedy series such as Barry and Curb Your Enthusiasm have run their course and have ended within the past 10 months, the network is ramping up their comedy intake to see what can take that slot. Their comedy series tend to bring in many awards and praise, so the stakes are high.

As of now, there is no timeline as to when production will begin or when the release will be for The Chair Company.
