Warner Bros.’ HBO begun production on a new drama series True Detective: Night Country in Iceland, via WarnerMedia. The series takes place in Ennis, Alaska during wintertime. True Detective: Night Country follows the story of detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro as they try to solve the case of eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace while confronting theirs pasts and dark truths lying underneath the Arctic ice, according to WarnerMedia.

Liz Danvers will be played by Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs, Contact, Taxi Driver) and Evangeline Navarro will be played by Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One, Black Files). The series is also set to include John Hawkes (The Sessions, Winter’s Bone), Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World, Doctor Who), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter film series), Finn Bennett (The Nevers, Hope Gap), Anna Lambe (The Grizzlies, Trickster), Aka Niviâna (True Detective, Borgen), Isabella Star Lablanc (True Detective, Long Slow Exhale), and Joel D. Montgrand (True Detective, Avatar: The Last Airbender), via WarnerMedia.
The series will be written, directed, and produced by showrunner Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid, Secondary Effects). Other producers of the series include Jodie Foster, Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk), and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar).
