HBO and ‘Game of Thrones’ Partner with the American Red Cross for the ‘Bleed for the Throne’ Event At SXSW 2019

With the final season of Game of Thrones premiering on April 14, HBO and the show have created a worldwide #ForTheThrone campaign where fans share what they would do for the throne. Last week, HBO shared a video announcement for a Create for the Throne campaign where 18 artists from all over the world recreate props from the show in their own way. Now, the network has announced a new, innovate campaign called Bleed for the Throne.

HBO and Game of Thrones have partnered with the American Red Cross for a six-day campaign from March 7-12. The SXSW event will hold the blood drive from March 7-9 in downtown Austin. After they have donated, fans will receive a free Bleed for the Throne t-shirt when available.

“The American Red Cross is thrilled to partner with HBO and Game of Thrones. Every day, thousands of patients across the country are dependent on voluntary blood donors to help them fight for their lives,” said Cliff Numark, Senior Vice President, American Red Cross Blood Services. “Winter is finally here, and the needs are dire. No matter who you’re rooting for to take the throne, you can be a hero for patients in need.”

The blood drives will also be made available in 43 states and nine colleges and universities. Fans will be given until March 17 to donate blood for a chance to be entered in a contest to win a trip to the Game of Thrones season eight world premiere.

“We are incredibly excited to mobilize the global army of Game of Thrones fans to make a positive impact on the world,” said Zach Enterlin, Executive Vice President, Program Marketing, HBO. “In partnership with the American Red Cross, we’re creating a unique platform to engage our tremendously passionate fanbase, and ultimately showcase the bravery and valor of those fans who will go so far as to bleed for the throne.”

Fans can make appointments online today to donate at SXSW. The event will have a standby line for those who have not been able to make an online appointment. The link to register can be found on the American Red Cross site.
