There is a new series coming up on HBO and BBC. The press release for the ten-episode drama show First Day On Earth announced that the two streamers will co-produce it.”Alongside HBO and BBC, the series will be executive produced by Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum, Mr. And Mrs. Smith), who is also the show’s main lead.
Amy Gravitt (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Barry), Executive Vice President and part of HBO & Max Comedy Programming, shared her thoughts in the press release. She stated, “Michaela’s words have the ability to transport the reader like no other. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue the conversation that began with I May Destroy You, alongside our close collaborators at VAL, A24, and the BBC. With Henri as our guide, First Day On Earth is as lyrical as it is visceral in its excavation of the idea of home.”
According to the press release, First Day On Earth is also executive produced by Phil Clarke (Such Brave Girls, Juice), Jesse Armstrong (Succession, Fresh Meat), and Roberto Troni (I May Destroy You, Our Girl) for Various Artists Limited, Piers Wenger (Ballet Shoes, Eric & Ernie) for A24 and Jo McClellan (The Tunnel, The Last Panthers) for BBC.
If anyone is interested in knowing more about the series, the press release has shared its official synopsis, available to read below:
“British novelist Henri (Coel) is stuck. Work has dried up, her relationship is going nowhere. So when she’s offered a job on a film in Ghana, West Africa – her parents’ homeland, where her estranged father lives – she can’t resist the chance to reconnect with him and the country of her heritage. But when she arrives neither the job nor her father turn out the way she expected, and soon Henri has to deal with danger and hypocrisy, form new friendships, lose her illusions, and create a new sense of identity – one that might leave her stronger, but could also break her.”
First Day On Earth is scheduled to begin filming in 2025.
