Hallmark Announces the 8th Season Renewal of ‘When Calls The Heart’

The long-running Hallmark original, When Calls The Heart, has been renewed for its eighth season, according to Deadline. Based on a book under the same name by Janette Oke (Love Comes Softly), the Western drama series was brought to the Hallmark Channel in 2014. The show concluded its seventh season with its tenth episode on Sunday, April 26 with the announcement of its renewal accompanying its closing moments. Developed from the book, the showrunner is Michael Landon Jr. (Love Comes Softly) as he also acts as an executive producer in addition to Brad Krevoy (Dumb and Dumber), Jimmy Townsend (The Package), and many others.

The series follows teacher Elizabeth Thatcher in her first teaching role at a small coal-mining town in the rural Canadian landscape. When Calls The Heart has amassed commercial and critical acclaim, taking home ASCAP’s Top Television Series Award home in 2015. The series stars Erin Krakow (Army Wives) as Thatcher, Jack Wager (General Hospital) as Sheriff Bill Avery. The cast also includes Martin Cummins (Riverdale), Pascale Hutton (Arctic Air), Kavan Smith (Stargate Atlantis), Paul Greene (Wicked Wicked Games), Andrea Brooks (Supergirl), and many more. The Hallmark series recently fired series regular Lori Loughlin (Full House) following her participation in the 2019 college admissions scandal. Loughlin starred as widow Abigail Stanton and was written out of the series in between the sixth and seventh seasons.

When Calls The Heart has not announced an exact premiere date, yet fans can expect to see the arrival of the new season sometime in 2021. Currently, fans can binge watch the first five seasons in their entirety on Netflix.
